- Ensure the hoof is completely clean and dry.
- Take a small amount of ointment, about the size of a golf ball, and work it with your fingers until it is soft and pliable.
- Press firmly around the pastern. Continue to cover the entire sole of the hoof (cover with paper or straw if necessary; - farriers: use a pad before shoeing).
- Remove with a hoof pick before working with the horse.
